A day in Napier

15 11 2007

Had a quiet day in Napier yesterday. Spent most of the day walking the city – viewing the very consistent Art Deco architecture of the CBD. Some very pretty buildings, but many have been marred by rather cheap signage. Generally only the public and office buildings have been spared.

In the afternoon, I went for a drive down the bay to Hastings, which also was wiped out. It’s downtown is less done up as Napier, with many buildings in Spanish Mission style.

Had a nice supper at a pub, then off to do some planning for the next few days. Looking at the weather, I have to decide whether to go to Taupo, or directly to Auckland.
